Altix® UV - The World's Fastest Supercomputer
Altix® UV scales to extraordinary levels-up to 2,048 cores (256
sockets) with architectural support to 262,144 cores (32,768
sockets). Support for up to 16TB of global shared memory in a
single system image, enables Altix UV to remain highly efficient
at scale for applications ranging from in-memory databases, to
a diverse set of data and compute-intensive HPC applications.
Scalable System Size.
The Altix UV family consists of three models that enable users
to optimally size their systems, achieving the correct balance of
compute, memory and storage capability. Altix UV 10 is one of
the most capable quad-socket rackmount servers available,
whereas Altix UV 100 and Altix UV 1000 are all about scaling a
single system image to a maximum of 2048 cores. This is
possible due to their innovative NUMAflex®, blade-based
architecture.
Altix UV Models
- Altix UV 10 – In a 4U rackmount form factor, Altix UV
10 packs up to four processors (32 cores), 64 DIMM
slots and ten I/O expansion slots. With up to 512GB of
shared memory, Altix UV 10 is ideal for a diverse set of
technical computing and Enterprise applications.
- Altix UV 100 - Addresses the mid-range market based
on an industry-standard 19" rackmount 3U form factor.
Altix UV 100 scales to 96 sockets (768 cores) and 6TB
of shared memory in two racks. Altix UV 100 delivers up
to 6.9 teraflops of compute power in a single system
image.
- Altix UV 1000 - For maximum scalability, Altix UV 1000
ships as a fully integrated cabinet-level solution with up
to 256 sockets (2,048 cores) and 16TB of shared
memory in four racks. Altix UV 1000 delivers up to 18.5
teraflops of compute power in a single system image.
An Open Platform
The Altix UV system's x86 architecture, based on open
standards, leverages quad-, six-, or eight-core Intel® Xeon®
7500 series processors. Because of SGI's collaboration with
the Linux community, Altix UV runs completely unmodified
Linux, including standard distributions from both Novell and
Red Hat. The impact grows from there as the x86 application
ecosystem is unrivaled by any other, making Altix UV ideal not
only for running custom codes, but also off-the-shelf ISV
applications.
Flexible System Expansion and Storage Capabilities
Industry-standard PCI Express expansion slots open up
countless possibilities for system configurations with seamless
support for industry-standard networking, storage and
graphics/GPU cards. This enables deployment of NVIDIA®
Tesla™ GPUs to supercharge performance for many
workloads. It also means full support for the entire SGI
InfiniteStorage hardware and software products.
