SGI Altix UV Supercomputers
Altix® UV - The World's Fastest Supercomputer
Altix® UV scales to extraordinary levels-up to 2,048 cores (256 sockets) with architectural support to 262,144 cores (32,768 sockets). Support for up to 16TB of global shared memory in a single system image, enables Altix UV to remain highly efficient at scale for applications ranging from in-memory databases, to a diverse set of data and compute-intensive HPC applications. Scalable System Size.

The Altix UV family consists of three models that enable users to optimally size their systems, achieving the correct balance of compute, memory and storage capability. Altix UV 10 is one of the most capable quad-socket rackmount servers available, whereas Altix UV 100 and Altix UV 1000 are all about scaling a single system image to a maximum of 2048 cores. This is possible due to their innovative NUMAflex®, blade-based architecture.

Altix UV Models

An Open Platform

The Altix UV system's x86 architecture, based on open standards, leverages quad-, six-, or eight-core Intel® Xeon® 7500 series processors. Because of SGI's collaboration with the Linux community, Altix UV runs completely unmodified Linux, including standard distributions from both Novell and Red Hat. The impact grows from there as the x86 application ecosystem is unrivaled by any other, making Altix UV ideal not only for running custom codes, but also off-the-shelf ISV applications.

Flexible System Expansion and Storage Capabilities Industry-standard PCI Express expansion slots open up countless possibilities for system configurations with seamless support for industry-standard networking, storage and graphics/GPU cards. This enables deployment of NVIDIA® Tesla™ GPUs to supercharge performance for many workloads. It also means full support for the entire SGI InfiniteStorage hardware and software products.

SGI Altix 4700 features unrivaled 'plug and solve' blade configurability in an uncompromising data-centric architecture capable of sustaining terabytes of data throughput.

Altix 4700 Advantages

Modular Blade Design for Superior Throughput and "Plug and Solve" Configurability. SGI Altix 4700 platform is comprised of modular blades — interchangeable compute, memory, I/O and special purpose blades for 'plug and solve' configuration flexibility. The innovative blade-to-NUMAlink® architecture enables users to precisely match the computing, memory, and I/O configuration to their application needs. This makes the Altix 4700 uniquely suited for workflows that involve a diverse mix of applications.

Scalable System Size for Simplified Programming, Low-cost Administration and Excellent Sustained Throughput for Diverse Applications.

SGI Altix 4700 incorporates the shared-memory NUMAflex® architecture, which simplifies software development, workload management and system administration. It supports up to 1024 cores under one instance of Linux and as much as 128TB of globally shared memory. The NUMAlink® interconnect, which leads the industry in bandwidth and latency performance allows a mix of diverse applications to process data on a single platform without costly data movement. The SGI Altix 4700 is the ideal solution for data intensive businesses.

Step Into Multi-paradigm Computing - Taking HPC Beyond the Limits of Moore's Law

SGI Altix 4700 Platform also integrates SGI's Peer I/O technology which enables high-speed access to SGI's large shared memory for all system components. Through peer I/O, SGI Altix 4700 is the first SGI platform designed to support new computing paradigms, such as reconfigurable computing through SGI RASC™ technology, that will take over where Moore's Law leaves off.

Standards-based Platform and Blade Form Factor Reduces Costs While Delivering Uncompromised Performance on Linux Like its predecessors, the SGI Altix 4700 platform has been designed specifically for technical users based on industry standard CPU's, memory and I/O. This infrastructure is supported by a complete HPC solution stack running on industry standard Linux® operating systems with the choice of Novell® SUSE Linux Enterprise Server or Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® Advanced Server operating systems. SGI® ProPack™ software provides the tools and enabling applications to optimize performance for Altix systems running SUSE Linux OS. All of this is supplied and supported by SGI for one-stop support.

Altix® 450

Revolutionary Mid-range Server Delivers New Levels of Data throughput, Efficiency and Flexibility with a Modular Blade Design System Highlights SGI Altix 450 servers are configured from interchangeable compute, memory, I/O and special purpose blades for 'plug and solve' configuration flexibility. The innovative blade-to- NUMAlink® architecture enables users to mix and match eight standardized blade choices, for perfect system right-sizing. The compact blade packaging of the Altix 450 rack also provides excellent performance density - up to a teraflop per tall rack - as well as industry-leading power efficiency.

Scalable System Size for Simplified Programming, Low-cost Administration and Excellent Sustained Throughput for Diverse Applications

SGI Altix 450 incorporates the shared-memory NUMAflex® architecture, which simplifies software development, workload management and system administration. It supports up to 38 sockets (76 cores) under one instance of Linux and up to 864GB of globally addressable memory. Supporting these powerful capabilities is the NUMAlink interconnect, which leads the industry in bandwidth and latency for superior performance on cluster applications. The SGI Altix 450 represents a versatile solution for shared or distributed memory applications. Standards-based Platform Reduces Cost While Delivering Uncompromised Performance on Linux

Altix® ICE Clusters

Companies today are dealing with increasingly difficult business problems, with ever-growing amounts of data to manage and process, and pressure to deliver results in record time. Most attack this critical problem by expanding IT infrastructure. But this "bigger faster" approach often comes with unforeseen administration and facilities costs and lower than expected throughput due to data bottlenecks. The SGI Altix ICE integrated blade cluster was designed for today's data intensive problems and avoids these pitfalls. This innovative new platform from SGI raises the efficiency bar, easily scaling to meet virtually any processing requirements without compromising ease of use, manageability or price/performance. SGI Altix ICE delivers unsurpassed customer value, with breakthrough density, efficiency, reliability and manageability.
